Weaving a Pouch
Learn the fundamentals of weaving and create a small, useful pouch in this all-levels class. Students will create a small loom using household materials and will use basic weaving techniques to make a bag with a flap closure. Introduction to Linocut Printmaking (4-weeks)
This 4-week class meets on Wednesdays, March 26 - April 16, from 6:30-8:30. Students will learn the basics of printmaking with linoleum and rubber blocks. We'll explore the printmaking process from safely using cutting tools to pulling a print while we create handmade stamps and linocut prints. No prior printmaking experience is necessary. Weaving on a Handmade Loom
The art of weaving has existed for many thousands of years and is used for decorative and practical purposes. Weaving is not only an art but a survival skill! In this beginner class, students will learn foundational weaving skills and will create their own small woven wall hangings to take home. Students will create cardboard looms and learn techniques including warping the loom, tabby stitch, soumak, rya knots, and finishing methods. No weaving experience is necessary. Ages 13+. 4-week Introduction to Linocut Printmaking
This class meets weekly on Fridays, 1:00-2:00 pm, September 6 - 27. Dig in to the fundamentals of relief printmaking in this weekly course! You will create your own one-color print using Speedball gouges (with safe practices), linoleum carving blocks, and color-fast, water-soluble inks. You will learn how to make an effective design by experimenting with positive and negative space, texture, shading, and mark making. You will learn how to transfer a design to a block, including "thinking backwards" to plan for your design to print in reverse. You will learn how to align your block with your paper (called “registration”) and pull prints by hand without a press, for easy application at home. Students will leave class with finished blocks and prints, and the skills to make more at home. All materials provided. Open to all skill levels. Register here.
