Classes and Workshops
Linocut Printmaking Classes
Linocut is a highly accessible form of relief printmaking, similar to woodblock printing. In both artforms, sections of linoleum, rubber, or wood are carved away to create raised and lowered areas. The printing plate or block is then inked using a brayer, and printed by hand-burnishing or using a printing press. Raised, inked areas are printed, and carved out areas are left blank. Linocut is extremely versatile, and can produce a wide variety of effects and designs. Stamps and blocks can be used on ceramics, fabric, gelli plates, paper and more. All classes are for ages 16+ unless otherwise specified.

Mixed Media and Art Journaling Classes
Mixed media art is created using a variety of different media, such as paint, paper, crayon; and techniques including stenciling, stamping, and collage. Mixed media is frequently used in art journaling, a popular practice of art-making into a handmade or found journal. Art journals are diverse and individual, and are often made as a private record, giving the artist permission to play and experiment. Jillian Lea Makery art journaling classes frequently utilize meditation and other spiritual practices in order to establish an intuitive, creative flow.
Saturday, September 7, 1-4pm
My Muses Card Shop
Event Space in Historic Carr Mill Mall, Carrboro NC
This is a mixed media art journaling class that incorporates meditation techniques. In this workshop, students will learn how to both relax with art, and to make themselves open and available for wisdom that may present itself through art. For me, these techniques provide a source of grounding and connection to my intuition and spiritual wisdom, as well as being a lot of fun and producing some beautiful art.
Class will begin with a seated meditation to get us grounded, open and available for wisdom. After grounding and clearing our minds, we will proceed to written journaling. Students will receive instruction on a selection of mixed media techniques and will create layered works on paper. Through this practice, we can transform our stresses, stories and blocks into works of art while simultaneously changing the thought patterns themselves. A variety of oracle cards will be available for inspiration throughout the workshop. Register here.
Thursdays, September 5 - 26, 6:30-8:30pm
Eno Arts Mill, Orange County Arts Council
437 Dimmocks Mill Rd #17, Hillsborough, NC
In this all-levels course, we will explore mixed media art journaling as a tool to help us find quiet, focus, and connection with our intuition (and beyond). Using a variety of meditation and art techniques, we’ll get into a flow state, where inspiration comes easily and play is the order of the day. Through writing, collage, paint, and other media, we will create a record of our thoughts, feelings, and aspirations. We’ll learn to layer paint, colored pencils, gesso, oil pastels and more and will use these techniques in playful exploration. In this state of play and exploration, we enter a state of connection with our intuition rather than our thinking mind. Students will leave this class with an understanding of mixed media techniques and how to apply them outside of the classroom, as well as a physical art journal full of their experiments, wisdom and visions. Register here.
